Pencil In

Pencil In are a Lancashire based alternative band. Frontman Bill Orrick is a veteran on the Preston music scene and his new venture showcases his talent for singing, guitar playing and song writing. Bill has an outstanding voice which draws comparisons to Jeff Buckley's control, range and versatility.

Pencil in was born out of college jams between singer Bill Orrick and effect pedal fixated lead guitarist Tony Arnott.

Later on Pencil In were joined by drummer Dave 'Perki' Perkins whose unique, off the wall drum style falls somewhere between the technical mastery of traditional jazz and the aggressive extremes of hardcore metal.

In October 2008, experienced bassist Len Soloshchenko joined in to beef up the band's sound following a background in Newcastle-based 9 man funk collective "The Criminal Underclass". Despite working briefly as a modern flamenco guitarist he decided, after hearing the band’s potential, to commit full time to the Pencil In cause.

The band began gigging the developing Preston scene in 2008. Since then the band have been building a solid UK fanbase and have played venues such as The Roadhouse in Manchester, Mad Ferret in Preston and Drakes in Southport.

Pencil In represents intelligent music and lyrics, comparable to Tori Amos, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and Queens of the Stone Age, with a smattering of Mars Volta esq crazified organised chaos. All this with a quality that is seriously lacking in today’s music scene.

Pencil In are working towards recording their hit 'Back and to the Left' and are hoping for a successful year!
